Terry joined the District in 2017 as the Watershed Planning Manager before being appointed District Administrator. He administers the day to day operations of the District, making certain that staff has the resources needed to fulfill the policies and priorities of the Board of Managers. He represents the District when engaging other units of government. He holds degrees from the University of MN - Twin Cities in Forestry and Environmental Science and MSU - Mankato in Biology and Earth Science Education. He has worked in Natural Resources Management for 27 years in private consulting and for municipal government.
Terry's favorite part of his job is the synergy. The district has a team of exceptionally gifted individuals with unique talents, and he loves taking an identified issue and working collaboratively to define and implement a solution that looks at multiple benefits. Beyond that, every day he learns something new from the people he works with. In his free time, Terry enjoys bicycling. While he prefers road and gravel bike, he has been known to get on a mountain bike from time to time. "With everything in our lives acting to separate us from nature - phones, computers, windshields, etc - riding my bicycle allows me to connect with nature and 'recharge my batteries' so to speak," says Terry. He also enjoy hiking, cross-country skiing, and most paddle sports.
Well, most of my staff will expect me to say Bluff Creek, and I definitely have a soft spot for that creek and the corridor that contains it but I would have to say Purgatory Park in Minnetonka. It is 155 acres of wetland, stream, and upland forest that has trails and a nearly contiguous corridor to Lotus Lake. It is immediately adjacent to, and connected with, the Edenbrook Recreation Area in Eden Prairie. Whether you want to hike, bicycle, or bird watch, there is something for everyone. As a bonus, Clear Springs Elementary School partnered with the City of Minnetonka and RPBCWD to restore a forest immediately adjacent to the park that provides educational opportunities for the students of Clear Springs and the community they serve.
